Get to Know Cindi

What part of serving on the ARA Board are you most excited about?

I am most looking forward to reconnecting with my fellow Rice alumni across multiple classes, residential colleges, and generations. As an alum living far away from Rice (in Paris, France), I look forward to sharing a global perspective and outside-in view with the ARA Board of Directors to brainstorm and build stronger, healthier, happier alumni communities worldwide.

What is your favorite “Only at Rice” memory or story?

"You're 40 yards out; 30 yard out, ready, set..." I still smile when I think back on the fun memories of Beer Bike, the annual tradition pitting our residential colleges against each other in fierce competition. I was lucky enough to not only race on the Will Rice teams (both bike and chug as an iron-woman!) and represent my residential college but also participate in our glorious win and the prize of jumping in Gillis' pool afterwards.

If you could give one piece of advice to Rice students, what would it be?

Step out of your comfort zone (yes, even if it means putting down that book or taking one less class) and try something NEW! College is the time to experiment with new hobbies, speak with new people, and jump over the hedges. Even if you fail, I don't know a more supportive place than the Rice to ensure you have a soft landing in all of your endeavors.
