Brains in a Bar July 2018
Tuesday, July 10, 2018 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM
Join Rice Alumni and Cin-Ty Lee to hear a story about how nature, through geology and biology, gives us the materials that drive the energy of our economies. Come learn what volcanoes have to do with oil, lithium, dinosaur bones, and beautiful gems as you enjoy a complimentary drink and the company of your fellow Owls.
Cin-Ty is a Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Earth Science. He is a geologist, petrologist, and geochemist who investigates how our planet has evolved with time, from the deepest parts of the Earth’s mantle to the continental crust and to the atmosphere. He combines field mapping and sampling with sate of the art analytical tools and simple analytical and numerical modeling. He has worked on continent formation and destruction, redox evolution of the Earth’s interior, the origin of various ore deposits, the petrological structure of volcanic margins, and the origin of granites. He is currently studying the geochemical interactions between the deep Earth and oceans/atmospheres in order to better understand what controls long term climate evolution. Learn more about Cin-Ty.
Registration is now WAITLIST ONLY. If you are on the waitlist on the day of the event, you are welcomed to come to Beaver's and will be accommodated on a space available basis.
