Zarin Mehta Fellows from the Shepherd School of Music perform alongside members of the New York Philharmonic in an afternoon of Chamber Music

Six students from Rice’s Shepherd School of Music’s woodwind, brass and percussion studios will join musicians from the New York Philharmonic for a free concert on Sunday, April 30, at 3:00 p.m.

The concert is part of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program, a new approach to preparing the next generation of world-class musicians for successful careers.

The Shepherd School is the first U. S. conservatory program to partner with the New York Philharmonic in this innovative initiative. The six Rice students were selected by audition to travel to New York as Zarin Mehta Fellows, to take lessons, rehearse and play alongside New York Philharmonic musicians. The fellows are clarinetist John Diodati ‘17; oboist Tamer Edlebi ‘17; trumpet player Daniel Egan ‘17; flutist Kayla Faurie ‘18; percussionist Robert O’Brien ‘18; bassoonist Benjamin Roidl-Ward ‘17.

Enjoy a post-concert reception, where you’ll have the chance to meet these up-and-coming talents and talk with Robert Yekovich, dean of the Shepherd School of Music.

The deadline to register is Friday, April 21. Limit two RSVPs per household. You must include the first and last names of all guests when registering. Reservations will be held at the door.

Questions about this free concert may be directed to Pippa Jarvis, director of external affairs for the Shepherd School, at paj3@rice.edu.
