Rice University President's Lecture Series — Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen

As part of the Rice University Community of Asian Alumni’s year-long celebration of 100 years of Asian life at Rice, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen will be featured in the President’s Lecture Series. Presented in association with Inprint's Margarett Root Brown Reading Series, the event will give attendees the opportunity to hear from the celebrated author of “The Sympathizers,” “The Refugees” and “Nothing Ever Dies: Vietnam and the Memory of War.”


There are no remaining complimentary seats available for this event through Rice University. Each registered guest must check in at the Alice Pratt Brown Hall lobby outside Stude Concert Hall NO LATER THAN 7 p.m. to receive tickets for entry. Any tickets not claimed by 7 p.m. will be released at that time.

General Admission tickets are available for purchase through Inprint's website. General Admission tickets will be sold for $5 (plus service fees). Seating for general admission ticket purchasers is guaranteed if you arrive and are seated by 7:25 p.m.

Due to the proximity of this evening’s venue to several campus construction projects, detailed arrival instructions are available below for those who are less familiar with campus. Convenient paid parking will be available in the Central Campus Garage and West Lot 2. Click here for the parking map.

  • Guests who park in the Central Campus Garage will take the sidewalk from McNair Hall, along the north side of the Turrell Skyspace, and enter Alice Pratt Brown Hall via the west doors.
  • Guests who park in West Lot 2 (adjacent to the tennis courts and intramural fields) will cross Inner Loop Road and proceed down the new sidewalk along the east side of Alice Pratt Brown Hall and enter via the east doors.

The President’s Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the Office of the President and supported by the J. Newton Rayzor Lecture Fund, was created to enrich the intellectual life of the Houston community by bringing to the Rice campus “celebrities of substance,” speakers of both high intellectual distinction and broad public appeal.
