About Alumni Association

THE ARA
If you were enrolled at Rice for at least one year in a degree-granting program and are no longer a Rice student, or you received a degree from Rice, you're already a member of the ARA. There are no dues or forms to fill out; all Rice alumni are automatically members.
We're on the second floor of the Peter and Nancy Huff House, and alumni are always welcome to stop by to visit.
As of January 2008, there were 46,509 alumni living in all 50 states and around the world. For more info on specific cities, visit their pages from the map on our home page.
The ARA does not fundraise; our colleagues in Resource Development are responsible for donations to Rice. The ARA focuses on building meaningful relationships between our alumni and the university. Of course, we do encourage our alumni to give to Rice.
Homecoming & Reunion 2009 will be November 13–15, in conjunction with the Rice vs. Tulane football game. Alumni College Weekend 2009 was held March 13–15, and Beer Bike was held March 21. Families Weekend 2009 will be held September 24–27.
Visit our registration page and sign up for the event you'd like to attend. If the event isn't listed, contact the alumni office at 713-348-4057, 800-RICE-ALU, or by email.
We strive to provide activities for all of our alumni, but resources only allow us to offer so much targeted programming. However, if you're interested in leading an activity for a specific group, contact our office at 713-348-4057, 800-RICE-ALU, or by email and we'll be happy to give you info on how to make that happen.
Many of our events are free, but sometimes we must charge to provide the best events possible. However, we work to keep these costs as low as possible; the cost to you is always much lower than the cost for the event.

CONTACTING ALUMNI
  • How do I contact fellow alumni?
Rice alumni can use the ARA Online Directory, a password-protected site listing information for thousands of alumni. The database is searchable by name, college, employer, zip code, and more. However, the ARA can't provide information on alumni who aren't listed in the database or have requested that their information be withheld.
The Rice Career Network is a searchable database of alumni who have agreed to make themselves available to Rice students and to fellow alums for information about their job field, company, graduate degree institution, city of residence, and the like. For more info, click here.

You can also join the ARA's official groups on LinkedIn (professional networking) and Facebook (social networking).
Contact the alumni office at 713-348-4057, 800-RICE-ALU, or by email and we'll send the updated information along to our alumni records staff.
Please allow 4-6 weeks for your information to be updated. Updates are processed and sent to alumni records twice each month. If a mailing is being processed or was processed before the change, material could be sent to your previous address.
Visit our Email Forwarding address page and sign up for an @alumni.rice.edu address. They're free of charge to our alumni.
As of October 2008, classnotes are now available through the Online Classnotes. You can also submit them to the recorder for your class. A list of each year's recorders can be found here. If no recorder is listed for your class, consider volunteering!
You can use Fondren as a guest, but you will have to join Friends of Fondren Library to check out books. More information about FoFL can be found at their website.

The Rice Alumni Digital Library offers full-text access to more than 14,500 searchable books, maps, reports, and other documents from more than 180 academic, trade, and professional publishers; plus articles from business and finance publications. The service is a collaborative initiative of the Office of the President, Fondren Library, Rice Information Technology, and the Association of Rice Alumni.
The Center for Student Professional Development (formerly Career Services) offers several services for Rice alumni, including the Rice Career Network. To see the full list of opportunities, visit their website or call them at 713-348-4055.
We're always looking for volunteers to lead activities in cities with large populations of Rice alumni. If you're interested in heading up activities in your area, please let us know. For more information, please visit our regional groups information page.
As long as your contact information is correct in the alumni directory, you will automatically receive notifications for Rice events in your area. Please be sure to provide your email address as many events are only advertised via email. Some regions also have local email listserves that provide for more information communication. Please visit the regional groups page for more information.
If you haven't heard from the contact person, let us know and hopefully we can make the connection happen. Please contact Sean Harlow, associate director of regional programs, by email or at 713-348-4674.
The lyrics to the alma mater, "Rice's Honor," by Ben H. Mitchell '22 (set to the tune of "Our Director March" by Frederick E. Bigelow) are:

All for Rice's Honor, we will fight on.
    We will be fighting when the day is done;
And when the dawn comes breaking.
    We'll be fighting on —
Rice! — for the Gray and Blue.
We will be loyal, to Rice be true.

Download the school's alma mater, performed by Rice University's Marching Owl Band.

The lyrics to the "Rice Fight Song" by Louis Girard '40 are:

    Fight for Rice!
    Rice fight on!
    Loyal sons arise.
The Blue and Gray for Rice today
    Comes breaking through the skies.
    (Fight! Fight! Fight!)
    Stand and cheer. Vict'ry's near.
    Sammy leads the way.
Onward go to crush the foe!
We'll fight for the Blue and Gray.

You must personally request a transcript from the Registrar's Office. The cost is $5. Contact them through their website or by phone at 713-348-4999.
For questions regarding diplomas, contact the Registrar's Office through their website or by phone at 713-348-4999.
Our office only keeps one copy of each Campanile for reference, but the Campanile office often has older copies available for a small fee and postage. Visit the Campanile website for more info.
Contact the Rice Campus Store at 713-348-4052.
Send it to our office at the address here or contact us at 713-348-4057, 800-RICE-ALU, or by email and provide the year and any inscription on the ring; we'll try to track down the owner.
Most frame shops can frame the Rice diploma, although you should make sure they have experience with the material of your diploma.
