Rice Day 2011: Celebrating Rice People
Each year the Association of Rice Alumni invites the Rice community on October 12—Rice Day—to help spread the word about Rice by wearing a Rice pin, hat, T-shirt, or however else may suit your personal style. The idea is that although we are a small university, with 45,000+ alumni, parents, students, and friends becoming living symbols of Rice, we can make a big impact in a single day to help promote the university.
Why October 12? When
the Rice Institute opened its doors in 1912, our
founders declared to the world that Rice would
stand among its premiere institutions of learning,
inviting educators and leaders from across the
globe to opening ceremonies on October 10-12.
Now, nearly 100 years later, Rice has more than
45,000 alumni who are living testaments to the
quality of the institution and its educational
accomplishments. As we near our centennial in
2012, we want to invite you to help share the
university's history and our aspirations with
people you live, work, and socialize with every
We encourage you to visit www.rice.edu/aboutrice
to brush up on your knowledge of Rice so you can
help tell your friends and colleagues why Rice
is one of the leading universities in the U.S.
Any time is a good time to share your knowledge
of and appreciation for Rice and the many wonderful people who comprise the Rice community, but we encourage
your participation especially every October. With
45,000 alumni, Rice has fewer alums than some
universities have students. Let the world know
Rice is a special place.
Ways to Promote
Wear your Rice ring, a Rice hat, pin, or whatever suits your personal taste. If you're running low on Rice parapernalia, the Rice University Bookstore sells Rice gear in the Rice Memorial Center, Rice Stadium (during home games) and online.
