HANDBOOK: What should a regional group look like?

A successful regional group should include the following:

Active Volunteer Leadership:
 

A consistent group of volunteers who meet at least once a year

A plan for recruiting, training, and incorporating new volunteers

A sense of accountability to ensure programs are carried out effectively


Effective Programming:

 

Programming that supports university priorities and initiatives

Events with a positive impact for Rice University and its various constituents

Efficient planning well in advance, followed by successful implementation

Timely reporting on the success of events


Comprehensive Communication:

 

Consistent contact with alumni office staff throughout the year and while planning specific programs

Consistent communication among regional group volunteers

Effective and timely program publicity (mailings, email, and the alumni website) in coordination with alumni office staff


Analysis:

 

Thoughtful analysis of each event

(At least) annual analysis of ongoing regional efforts when planning for the coming year
