When
the Rice Institute opened its doors in 1912, our
founders declared to the world that Rice would
stand among its premiere institutions of learning,
inviting educators and leaders from across the
globe to opening ceremonies on October 10-12.
Now, nearly 100 years later, Rice has more than
43,000 alumni who are living testaments to the
quality of the institution and its educational
accomplishments. As we near our centennial in
2012, we want to invite you to help share the
university's history and our aspirations with
people you live, work, and socialize with every
day.
The Association of Rice Alumni is pleased to announce
Rice Day— to be observed
annually on October 12. On this day, we encourage
Rice alumni everywhere to wear your Rice ring,
a Rice hat, pin, or T-shirt, fly a Rice banner—in
whatever way suits your personal style, to become
a living symbol for Rice.
Please note that this is not an actual event,
nor will there be any events specifically planned
around Rice Day. This is more of a "spirit
day" for alumni to show their Rice pride
wherever they are!
In addition, we encourage you to visit www.rice.edu/aboutrice
to brush up on your knowledge of Rice so you can
help tell your friends and colleagues why Rice
is one of the leading universities in the U.S.
today.
Any time is a good time to share your knowledge
of and appreciation for Rice, but we encourage
your participation especially every October. With
40,000 alumni, Rice has fewer alums than some
universities have students. Let the world know
you are proud of Rice.
