Society of Latino Alumni of Rice (SOLAR)

SOLAR is a non-profit corporation founded in 1999 whose mandate is to represent and promote the Hispanic alumni of Rice University. Its membership is open to all alumni and affiliates of the university.

As the official voice of the university's Hispanic alumni, SOLAR represents and promotes the positive influence of its members on the Rice community and the community at-large. SOLAR is headquartered in Houston, Texas (in proximity and in concert with the university and the office of alumni affairs), but our membership hails from all over the United States.

SOLAR is committed to:

	Networking: The organization will serve as a means for Hispanic Alumni to network and make professional contacts. It will also offer professional and leadership development, workshops, and lectures.
	Recruiting: The organization will help recruit qualified Latinos/as to Rice University including undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors.
	Civics: The organization will serve as an information base for issues affecting Hispanics in the Rice community and the community-at-large. It will also offer avenues for Hispanic alumni to become more involved through volunteerism.
	Social: The organization will increase the contact, communication, and sharing of information between and among Hispanic alumni and other alumni associations through social activities and events, which includes highlighting the special achievements of our Hispanic alumni.
