Sallyportal, Rice's new professional networking website, is off to a roaring start after 4,000+ Owls (and counting!) signed up for an account. That includes more than 2,500 alumni and 1,200 students. And with that many users, so many connections are already being made. Wondering what kind of impact you can have on a student or young alum on Sallyportal? Albert Nabiullin ’18, a mathematical economic analysis major, shares how the site has opened up new opportunities for students like him to reach their goals for life after Rice:
I was very excited for Sallyportal to launch! Due to our comparatively small alumni network, we may not know fellow Owls who are working in the same field, sector or company we are interested in. Sallyportal has leveraged that alumni network to provide a tightknit community between current students, recent, and not-so-recent alums.
I've seen numerous posts on the message board offering help and networking resources. I personally had a 45-minute phone chat with a Rice alum who's currently working for a company I'm interested in. She was very open to discussing her experiences at the company and offered me valuable insights I would not have been able to receive otherwise. Without Sallyportal, I doubt I would've connected with this alum and had a productive conversation about my career future.
