Cathryn Rodd Selman
Volunteer with Annual Gifts
The Volunteer
As a 25th Reunion Giving Co-chair,
Cathryn was instrumental in helping to set her class'
reunion dollar and participation goals, recruiting a
committee of classmates, and making numerous personal
solicitations. She was extremely hands-on as she helped
raise almost half a million dollars for the Rice Annual
Fund.
Cathryn exhibited extraordinary
leadership in pooling $250,000 in challenge funds from
a small group of classmates in order to motivate both
participation and increased gifts from classmates. Her
tireless efforts led her class to raise the second largest
amount ever for a 25th reunion and helped her class'
participation reach a record 50 percent, an increase
of almost 40 percent from the previous fiscal year.
Alumni like Cathryn make reunion
giving successful through their willingness to share
their Rice experiences. Her enthusiasm inspires and
motivates others to participate, either by giving back
to the university, volunteering their time, or, in many
cases, both.
The Organization
Annual Gifts volunteers help
raise over $5M in unrestricted dollars for the Rice
Annual Fund, which provide critical funds for the immediate
needs of the university. The Annual Gifts staff works
with over 300 alumni volunteers who are an instrumental
part of its operation and its program support.
