Alumni Relations Volunteer Opportunities
Alumni volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are always grateful to volunteers who offer their time and talent to Rice. Whether you want to engage with fellow alumni through regional and affinity groups, work directly with students or support the ongoing success of the university through fundraising, we would love to connect you to a volunteer experience that has meaning for you. Please click on the volunteer button to the right to explore some of the ways in which you can have a positive impact on your alma mater.
The Association of Rice Alumni, in conjunction with local volunteers, organizes programs and activities for alumni and friends around the nation and internationally. Depending on the interests and size of the alumni population, examples of programs may include, but are not limited to: lectures, presidential visits, new student send-off parties, student mentoring, cultural events, picnics, tours, sporting events, networking socials and happy hours.
Alumni groups strive to:
- Build a relationship between Rice and its alumni.
- Encourage parents of current students as well as friends of Rice to actively participate in the Rice community.
- Enhance the reputation of Rice University, its students and its alumni.
Affinity Groups are largely Houston-based groups that are formed on the basis of shared ethnicity, professions, leisure activies or other common interests. Some affinity groups also have programming in regions outside of Houston. Click here for more information, or contact Karen McDonell, director of alumni programs, at 713-348-6954.
Regional Groups provide a means for alumni and friends living outside of Houston to interact with one another and to stay in touch with Rice. Connect with your region's volunteer leadership through our regional groups page. For more information, contact Sean Cowan, director of regional outreach, at 713-348-4638.
Rice's Initiative for Students, launched in 2014, creates opportunities for the Rice alumni community to dedicate their time and expertise to advancing Rice students' educations and careers. Read about about alumni who are making an impact and learn how you can get involved at owledge.rice.edu/volunteer.
Rice Annual Fund volunteers are ambassadors for the university, making important connections and encouraging classmates and peers to participate in the university's tradition of giving back. As a volunteer you will partner with annual giving staff to connect with classmates and encourage personal philanthropy. For more information, visit the Rice Annual Fund website or contact Emily Kernan Hilber, director of the Rice Annual Fund, at 713-348-4666.
