Houston Young Alumni
The Houston Rice Young Alumni
organization provides fun and meaningful opportunities
for Houston-area young alumni (roughly 10 years from
graduation) to begin and maintain a lifelong relationship
with Rice University.
The Houston
Young Alumni Committee (HYAC) plans events, programs,
and services designed to introduce recent alumni to
the Association of Rice Alumni and to meet their social
and educational needs (e.g., cultural outings, pregame
tents at sports events, networking mixers, Homecoming
and Beer Bike activities, service opportunities, etc.).
All young alumni are welcome to participate on the planning
committee.
Houston Young Alumni receive
three newsletters each year with the upcoming season's
events. They also receive monthly email reminders.
To be included in these updates, make sure Rice has
your contact information. Log on to the Alumni Directory
to verify your correct info!
The Houston Young Alumni organization
also presents the Builder's Award, which recognizes
Houston-area recent alumni who have made significant
contributions to the Rice community. Each year, a
subcommittee of the Houston Young Alumni Committee
will select the recipients of this award.
Young
Alumni Outside Houston
Houston isn't the only place
where Young Alumni events are happening. Many other
cities frequently hold events for our young alumni,
including happy hours and other social gatherings. Check
out the links on the right of this page or visit the event calendar to find young alumni events outside of Houston.
Don't see an event where you
live? If you're interested in hosting a Young Alumni
event in your area, contact the alumni office and we'll
give you information on how you can get together with
the other young alumni in your area!
Students
One of the Alumni Association's
key principles is "Supporting Students." We
have several programs designed to help our future alumni
by connecting them to current alumni who may have valuable
experiences or knowledge to share.
Student Events
Sallyport Award
The Sallyport Award is an award
presented by the ARA each year to recognize a deserving:
(i) undergraduate degree candidate
who has made contributions to the Rice community above
his or her individual college and who may not otherwise
be recognized; and
(ii) graduate degree candidate
who has made contributions to the Rice community above
his or her individual department and who may not otherwise
be recognized.
A faculty letter of recommendation
and resume are required.
