About Rice University Young Alumni
As 25% of the total alumni base, Young Alumni represent an essential and rapidly growing subset of the Association of Rice Alumni. For this reason, the ARA is excited to provide this community with a range of programs and events throughout the year. Everyone who has earned an undergraduate degree from Rice within the last 11 years is considered part of the Young Alumni group of Rice University.
Rice Young Alumni is driven to promote social interaction through educational activities, community involvement, and cultural experiences. We strive to offer information, events, and opportunities for all Rice Young Alumni to continue their engagement with the university. Our goal is to nurture a sense of community as recent graduates establish themselves away from the Rice campus.
Several avenues of engagement exist for Rice Young Alumni, including:
- Social and celebratory events that are planned for Young Alumni across the nation as outlined in the following calendar of events.
- The Young Alumni Host Committee offers leadership opportunities for individuals who are committed to advancing the mission of the Young Alumni group within their cohort as well as the broader Rice University alumni community.
- Young alumni are encouraged to volunteer their time and talents as mentors for current Rice University Students through the Initiative for Students and participate in other volunteer opportunities.
- Each spring, the Builders Award honors the accomplishments of extraordinary Young Alumni. All young alumni are eligible to nominate their peers for this recognition.
Young Alumni Host Committee
The Young Alumni Host Committee serves to advise and promote the programs, outreach, and activities tailored to Rice alumni who graduated within the past 11 years. Members of the Young Alumni Host Committee strive to serve peers by nurturing opportunities for engagement in Houston and across the nation. All Young Alumni are eligible to self-nominate and be selected to serve on the Young Alumni Host Committee. Committee members dedicate their time and energy in an effort to ensure that Young Alumni programs contribute towards the success of the ARA. Host Committee members are expected to provide feedback to outreach emails, serve as committee chair for specific events, advance Young Alumni programs through promotion and participation, and represent Young Alumni to the ARA Board. Applications are made in writing to the selection committee; for more information, click on the Host Committee Nominations tab below.

Young Alumni Builders Award
In 2005 the Association of Rice Alumni created the Young Alumni Builders Award to celebrate exceptional Young Alumni whose commitment to the ideals of Rice University founders is apparent in their dedication to service, generosity of time and means, and professional success. We invite you to recognize Young Alumni who are building a better future for the university in two ways. First, you may nominate candidates for the award; the call for nominations opens Rice Day, October 12, and continues through January 31.

Young Alumni’s Role in The Initiative For Students
Rice’s Initiative for Students is a three-year volunteer engagement effort that, among other things, looks to expand internship and externship opportunities for current students. This expansion presents a wealth of opportunity for Young Alumni to mentor current students and, in this way, contribute their talent, experience, and leadership to future generations of Owls. Additional opportunities for Young Alumni to contribute towards the continuing success of Rice University are available here.
