I write this fall newsletter with great pride in our university’s recent announcement of The Rice Investment, a new initiative that significantly expands financial support for low- and middle-class students. As alumni, we have all benefitted from Rice’s legacy of access and affordability, and alumni have been strong proponents of strengthening this important part of the Rice culture. Rice is now continuing the tradition and taking a leadership role to ensure that students of all means have access to the life-changing, and world-changing, opportunities on our campus at a time when many families are struggling to make ends meet. Your Rice Alumni Board has formally expressed its support for The Rice Investment. You can learn more about this effort at www.rice.edu/thericeinvestment.
Propelled by this and other momentum from the V2C2, your Rice Alumni Board is focused on expanding engagement throughout the ever-growing Owl alumni community: now 55,000 strong across the globe! We recently convened with over 250 fellow alumni at the Rice Volunteer Leadership Conference, where we connected with university priorities and planned new ways to share our Rice enthusiasm. The Board is also focused on innovations in how we connect with growing sectors of the Rice population, including young alumni and graduate students, and expanding the reach of our regional and affinity groups. We welcome your feedback and ideas to drive engagement at Rice at alumni.rice.edu/contactus.
I hope you will follow the road to Rice and join me for Homecoming & Reunion, November 2–3. The weekend will be filled with events that are fun and thought-provoking for all Owls, including an All-Alumni Town Hall with President David Leebron on Friday afternoon. For more information, go to alumni.rice.edu/homecoming/home. We hope to see you there!
As I shared with the Class of 2022 at this fall’s matriculation ceremony: The students of Rice today, and the leadership and innovation from the Owl community, continue to inspire me to uphold the Rice reputation every day. I’m proud to share that legacy, and that future, with all of you.
