To serve as a catalyst for beneficial collaboration and lifelong connections between alumni and the George R. Brown School of Engineering by recognizing outstanding achievements, supporting students, and connecting alumni, students, faculty and staff.
Formed in 1938, Rice Engineering Alumni (REA) is the oldest alumni affinity group at Rice and is dedicated to providing support to the George R. Brown School of Engineering. REA provides over $150,000 in awards and scholarships to outstanding students each year, recruits students for meaningful internships and facilitates opportunities for alumni to interact with current Rice students as well as other students in their communities through programs such as:
Membership in the REA is open and automatic for¬†all alumni of the School of Engineering and all members are welcome at any REA event. REA Sponsors sustain and enhance REA programs and the School of Engineering and receive certain benefits. Learn more about sponsorship.
Rice Engineering Alumni is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors consisting of approximately 20¬†alumni serving staggered 3-year terms.
REA Board members serve on standing committees and task forces that carry out the work and mission of REA. Current REA standing committees and their 2017-2018 chairs are:
Outside Houston, REA has chapters in the three cities with the largest populations of Rice engineering alumni. Each chapter is led by a volunteer steering team, one or two of whom also serve on the REA Board of Directors. To get involved with your REA chapter, please contact the steering team chair or any steering team member.
