What part of serving on the ARA Board are you most excited about?

Engaging with the broader Rice community and finding ways to better serve that community. I've greatly enjoyed being involved with the Rice Engineering Alumni board since 2020. I look forward to getting to know my fellow board colleagues.

What is your favorite “Only at Rice” memory or story?

One of my favorite memories was the Lovett O-week scavenger hunt when I was an advisor. One of the items listed was a library book; however, the library was already closed. Two freshmen and I rattled the library book drop and determine if it held what would presumably be a library book. We then moved the entire book drop to the Lovett Quad to get credit.

If you could give one piece of advice to Rice students, what would it be?

Once you arrive at Rice, the question is no longer “Are you smart enough?” Everyone here is smart. Long-term success is often determined by entirely different things: emotional resilience, curiosity, relationships, consistency, communication skills and learning how to care for yourself and others when things become difficult. Use the full experience at Rice to build these other skills. Explore. Discover. Enjoy.
