Recognizing and celebrating alumni and members of the Rice community is a key objective of the ARA Board. Through Board supported programs we are able to honor members of the Rice community for their service to Rice, professional contributions and so much more. Alumni and student recognition is accomplished through three awards programs: the Laureates, Builders and Sallyport award as well as the through the work of the Alumni Recognition Committee (ARC). Learn more about these recognition programs below.
The Laureates Awards Program was created by the Association of Rice Alumni in 1937 to recognize highly distinguished individuals for extraordinary achievements and contributions to their professions, local communities and Rice University. Every year, three major awards celebrate outstanding Rice alumni and friends of the university, including the Meritorious Service Award, the Distinguished Alumni Award and the Gold Medal, the highest possible honor by the Association of Rice Alumni for service to the university.

The Alumni Recognition Committee (ARC) is comprised of a dedicated group of alumni who work to recognize the individual achievements of Rice alumni, students, faculty and staff by sending hand-written notes and emails of congratulation to celebrate important milestones and accomplishments. Since the committee’s creation in 2007, the members of ARC have sent out tens of thousands of these personal notes, which is a reflection of how generous the ARC volunteers are with their time, and of the mark our talented alumni are making throughout our world. If you are interested in joining ARC please contact Tara Quell, Associate Director, Rice Alumni Board.
