Gunn Patel hosts Rice summer interns at Baylor College of Medicine, served as chair for the Rice Fund Steering Committee, co-chaired her five-,10- and 20-year class reunions and is currently serving as a Lovett College alumni associate and annual giving class volunteer. Beyond her Rice involvement, Gunn Pagel has volunteered with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for nearly two decades, including as chair of the magazine committee, and served 14 years with the Junior League of Houston. She brings additional board governance experience from her time as director of board governance at Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast and her service as a board fellow for Girls Inc. of Greater Houston.

What part of serving on the ARA Board are you most excited about?

I gained so much from my Rice experience, so I am excited to give back to an institution that has given me so much. I am particularly looking forward to building new relationships with other alumni and engaging alumni that may have lost touch with the university.

What is your favorite “Only at Rice” memory or story?

All things Lovett College! From Casino Night to serving as Associates Coordinator, I have nothing but fond memories of my time in the Toaster (RIP). My closest friends from Rice were actually in my O-week group, so I am extra grateful for the O-week experience.

If you could give one piece of advice to Rice students, what would it be?

Try new things, stay curious and build relationships. The students, alumni and faculty that you work with will be lifelong connections.
