A Note from James Hurley, Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations - Spring 2026

James Hurley

Dear Owls,

Spring at Rice means azaleas, baseball, and of course, the anticipation of Beer Bike! Join us at the Alumni Tent on Saturday, April 11, to cheer on the riders, enjoy food and drinks, and soak up the excitement. The Class of 2021 will also celebrate their 5th reunion on Friday, April 10, making it a truly spirit-filled weekend. Register today to save your spot in the heart of the action!

Rice continues to make an impact on the global stage. At the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Rice launched the Global Brain Economy Initiative, a visionary effort that positions brain capital as a key driver of economic development, especially in the era of artificial intelligence. Discover how Rice is turning research into real-world impact.

Exciting opportunities are also unfolding right here on campus! Rice’s Community Associates Program invites alumni from all residential colleges to engage with current students, offering mentorship, guidance and support that enriches the college experience for everyone. With the opening of Chao College in fall 2026, there’s an added opportunity to welcome the new residents and help shape their time at Rice. It’s a truly rewarding way to give back and to learn and grow alongside our students. Learn more and apply at associates.rice.edu.

We’re celebrating the many ways our alumni help the Rice community flourish. Recently, we sent personalized videos to thank you for all of the ways you show up for Rice and to highlight opportunities to stay involved. Our alumni are a vital part of the Rice family, and we want to make sure you’re in the loop. If you or someone you know isn't receiving emails from us, please reach out at alumni@rice.edu so we can stay connected.

The countdown is on for Alumni Weekend, Nov. 12-15! Save the date and get ready to return home for a memorable weekend filled with traditions and shared memories. In the meantime, explore the incredible programs and events that make our alumni community so special.

Go Owls!
