Trip Summary

Join this truly life-changing adventure to experience the boundless beauty and pristine vastness of Antarctica. This remote continent and its precarious waterways have hosted some of the most courageous explorers in history, and have been the scenes of both triumph and tragedy since Captain Cook first sailed the region in 1773.

Embark from Ushuaia, Argentina, and cruise through the Drake Passage to the South Shetland Islands amid the Antarctic Peninsula — exploring the dramatic landscapes and remarkable wildlife that call this continent home. Trek through penguin rookeries, observe vast flocks of seabirds, learn about Antarctic ice conditions, and discover the sites of both past and present scientific expeditions.

Your expedition vessel for this amazing journey is the modern, 190-guest Ocean Victory, a nimble craft designed specifically for polar cruising — with large cabins, exceptional amenities, and a knowledgeable and friendly crew. Carefully selected specifically for this program, her small size provides the ability and agility to maneuver narrow channels and access bays that are closed to bigger vessels. The craft also boasts innovative new features including Rolls-Royce zero speed stabilizers and a patented X-Bow that offers a more comfortable and stable voyage.

Trip Summary

Much of Belize remains genuine wilderness, with large expanses of dense tropical forest, miles of wild rivers, abundant bird life — and the largest coral reef in North America. Discover tropical wonders on this six-day voyage aboard the 62-guest National Geographic Sea Bird, as we journey the length of the country’s coastline. Using a fleet of Zodiacs, kayaks and paddleboards, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the crystalline waters and land on isolated cays, some inhabited by seabird colonies, others mere patches of sugar-white sand. The snorkeling is immensely satisfying, and we will provide you with all the gear you need. And for those who are certified to scuba dive, excursions can be arranged to fit seamlessly with our itinerary. You’ll also discover jungle rivers and mangrove lagoons — to give you the most complete sense of the incredible diversity of ecosystems here. All the while, you’ll explore under the sure guidance of an expedition leader, veteran naturalists, a certified photo instructor, undersea specialist and a wellness specialist — the largest and most knowledgeable expedition team in the region. This is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with the Traveling Owls, and one not to be missed!

On this Traveling Owls expedition, explore world-class observatories that crown the northern mountaintops of Chile as well as its diverse geography and wildlife. Meet astronomers who peer deeper into the universe than ever before. Be one of the few to see the massive 66-antenna Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) impressive array of giant antennas located at an elevation of 16,000 feet on the Chajnantor Plateau. We’ll observe the evening skies of the desert using large amateur telescopes. Your adventure continues in the spectacular Atacama Desert exploring extraordinary landscapes — volcanoes, geysers, evaporated salt lakes and hot springs. Desert wildlife includes vicunas, wild relatives of the llamas, and Andean flamingos. A Santiago city tour includes the Pre-Colombian Museum. We’ll then travel south to Chile’s Lake District to behold breathtaking scenery. Ancient groves of Araucaria (monkey puzzle trees), volcanic lakes and lagoons surround the area's snow-capped volcanoes. Trip Summary

Led by historian, author and Rice’s William P. Hobby Professor Emeritus of History John Boles, immerse yourself in late 18th-century France by tracing the footsteps of Thomas Jefferson. During America’s formative years, many of our Founding Fathers traveled to Paris to pursue French military support and, later, to help our new nation gain a place on the international scene. Foremost among these leaders was Thomas Jefferson, who spent five years in Paris, mostly as the American Minister to France. Jefferson was in France at a volatile time during the years leading up to the cataclysmic events of the French Revolution. Delve into this fascinating time in French and American history and see firsthand the Paris which Jefferson inhabited. Marvel at the places that inspired him in and around Paris, including the Louvre, Versailles and the Hôtel de Salm. Then follow the path of his 1787 journey along the Rhône River through Burgundy and Languedoc with overnights in the cities of Lyon and Nîmes. Explore the same picturesque villages and beautiful landscapes that Jefferson passed; be awestruck by the same Roman ruins, such as the Maison Carré, the Arles amphitheater and the spectacular Pont du Gard; and be delighted by delicious regional foods and wines.

Venture across the stark landscape of an island formed by volcanic eruptions, where the ground is still warmed by geothermal activity. Set out by Zodiac to view towering cliffs teeming with nesting seabirds and snow-capped plateaus rising into the clouds.
