The success of the Laureates Awards Program relies upon members from the Rice community like you who nominate alumni, friends and volunteers exemplifying the criteria of these awards: Meritorious Service, Distinguished Alumni and Gold Medal.

Nomination Guidelines

To submit a nomination, please complete the form below. Nominations must include at least three letters, including a nominating letter and two letters of support. Incomplete nominations cannot be considered.

Selected honorees are announced in early spring and are honored each year at the annual Laureates Dinner. Nominations must be received by September 30 to be considered for the ceremony in the following spring.

Best Practices for a Strong Nomination

• Tell the complete story. The selection committee evaluates nominees solely on the materials submitted and does not conduct additional research.

• Coordinate with fellow nominators. The committee will not request additional information after submission, so ensure all required materials are included.

• Choose the appropriate award category. Review the award criteria before submitting your nomination.

Consider which award best reflects the nominee's impact:

What makes a strong nomination packet?

A compelling nomination tells a complete story through detailed documentation. Include a nomination letter and strong letters of support from individuals who know the nominee in different capacities.

How many letters of support should I include?

Nominations must include at least two letters of support. Past recipients have had anywhere from a few to more than a dozen letters. Focus on quality over quantity: thoughtful, detailed letters are more valuable than numerous brief endorsements.

Should I include supplemental materials?

Yes. Supporting materials such as a résumé or CV, biography, LinkedIn profile, awards or news articles can provide additional context and strengthen the nomination.
