Rice Day 2020

Dear Rice Alumni and Friends,

It’s Rice Day 2020! On this anniversary of the university’s founding, we celebrate the 55,000-plus Owls who represent our extraordinary alumni network. We encourage you to take a moment today to connect with old classmates and college-mates and to share your Rice pride from wherever you are in the world.

We also take pride in the honest and frank discussions that are taking place about Rice’s history and the context of the university’s founding. We look forward to continuing to work with Professor Alex Byrd ’90, who recently was named Rice’s first Vice Provost for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and to engaging in more conversations sponsored by the Task Force on Slavery, Segregation and Racial Injustice and the Center for African and African American Studies.

Finally, the Association of Rice Alumni, with the help of its Committee on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice, strives to ensure that all of our Owls feel safe, included and represented, on campus and beyond. We encourage you to join us for Owl Together from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, featuring more than 100 virtual events from across the university highlighting faculty, alumni, students and staff. It’s a great way to learn, stay connected and celebrate our Rice family.

As always, we welcome your feedback, including about Rice Day and any additional programming you’d like to see. Or just say hello! Contact us here.

Warmly,
