Much of the ARA Board's business is conducted through committees and task forces, in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations. Membership on ARA committees is by appointment by the president of the ARA Board.
The Alumni Recognition Committee recognizes and celebrates the achievements of Rice alumni, faculty, students, staff and university friends by sending hand-written notes. Members of the Executive Committee attend to board business between regularly scheduled board meetings. Chaired by the ARA president, the other members include the past president, president-elect and one member from each of the three board classes.
Members of the Homecoming & Reunion Committee assist with the annual creation and implementation of one of Rice’s flagship engagement experiences for alumni and their families. Members of the Laureates Selection Committee are responsible for sourcing, researching, vetting and presenting Laureate award candidates to the committee for consideration. They are also voting members during the final selection process for the Laureates Awards, the Association of Rice Alumni's highest honor. The Laureates Selection Committee is chaired by the ARA past president and is comprised of current and past ARA Board members as well as alumni engaged in the Rice community.
Members of the Board Nominations Committee are responsible for identifying, recruiting, and recommending candidates to apply for the ARA Board. They are also voting members during the final selection process. The Board Nominations Committee is chaired by the ARA president-elect and is comprised of current and past ARA Board members as well as alumni engaged in the Rice community.
Members of the Alumni Trustee Nominations Committee are responsible for identifying, recruiting, and recommending candidates to serve as an Alumni Trustee. The Alumni Trustee Selection Committee is comprised of the ARA president, president-elect and current and past Board of Trustee members.
