Siyu (Kalian) Shi ’17, a medical student at Stanford, is pursuing her dream to impact global health. During her time at Rice, Shi was involved in the Rice Global Health Technologies program where she learned to innovate at the juncture of science and engineering. She also published articles in innovative biomaterial and cutting-edge neurosurgery treatment. Projects from her global health technology classes inspired her to focus on the intersection of innovation in science and medicine. At Stanford, Shi participates on international teams that test new radiation treatments for deadly brain cancers and is involved in a startup that translates biomaterials into market goods. Her ultimate goal is to bring her skillsets and insights back to Asia, where she grew up, and to help the growing patient population there.
